I jumped the gun and subbed something to Three Crow Press that I shouldn't have. I was determined to set a goal and make it, see? So I wrote this story in one day and I was pretty happy with it. Edited it to death. Sent it on. Blech. Should have paid more attention to my instincts.
Whenever I have a story that jumps around in tense - this guy is reflecting on this NOW about what he did THEN and then what he did BEFORE THAT OTHER THEN HAPPENED - I can get a little bit of a space-case going on, or something. I think I over complicate (who me?). But I thought it read fine, or maybe I was just relieved to have met my goal. So then I took it out today and polished it like five more times, which is what I do, and now it reads better (iffn you ask me) and it shifts more fluidly and there's less complication having to do with tense (or more sense with tense, I guess). So hmm...I guess I'm going to re-send and hope they won't hang my hide out to dry, though I know I'm causing some extra work and not being very professional (goes and hides). So wish me luck wouldja?
Also, my short no REALLY short story came out on today - Heartland at Three Crow Press.
EDIT: Reece at Three Crow allowed the resub, so many thanks to her. Also, a really good friend KNEW I couldn't stand to leave it alone and would re-edit. If she knows this about me, why didn't I?
