from KLAUDIA: novelizing update
Jan. 7th, 2008 10:14 amThe novel is in three books. I'm editing and reworking the first book and about halfway through it. The third book is where I actually get to write some completely new stuff, but the first and second require rewrites which are driving me crazy.
Background: I wrote this novel several years ago and abandoned it because of some personal circumstances. The story was always close to me and still is, but ack, there are certain things about what I've done that are driving me crazy. I came off editing a chapter that made me think, this is why it's worth it, promptly followed with with the most abysmal chapter ever. Sigh. I almost let it derail me.
I'd decided I wasn't going to work on any other stories until this one is complete and what happened? I just about stopped. Period.
Doing a little better, though - it's just a project that needs completing like everything else, and I gotta keep plugging at it instead of procrastinating. I have since equated it with a couple of other big projects I did and it's helping in terms of practical issues, i.e. turning off my own personal bullshit meter. There's no more room for it, it's stopping me all across the board and I can't let that happen. And then I realized that I just can't be afraid to tear it up, rearrange, and strangulate the majority of a chapter if it needs it.
